| SKIING
LEVELS |
SLIDER
(Green Lesson Card) |
The
Slider is the beginning skier. As a slider, the student
will get an introduction to skiing, the equipment, safety
considerations and speed control. Basic skills of straight
run, traverse, turning, speed control and lift operation will
be taught. New students will be a Slider for a minimum
of two
weeks – three classes per day – and will ski with
an instructor’s supervision until they pass to the next
level. |
GLIDER
(Bright Pink Lesson Card) |
Gliders
attend at least three lesson periods learning more advanced
turns with the skis matching (becoming parallel) during the
turn. The skier will be able to handle all beginner
and some intermediate terrain. The fundamental skills
of balance, pressure control, rotary and edging become more
blended as a student works through this level. Students
receive one (1 ½ hour) class per trip. |
SHAPER
(Orange Lesson Card) |
The
Shaper learns to ski with skis becoming parallel at the beginning
of the turn. At this level, most of the ski area is
available to the skier. The pole touch is introduced.
Movement becomes more dynamic and the skier demonstrates advanced
rhythm and flow while linking multiple turns. In order
to pass to the next level, Shapers must pass a test given
by a senior instructor. Students receive one (1 ½
hour) class per trip. |
DUSTER
(Blue Lesson Card) |
Dusters
develop an open parallel turn. The skier will become
more dynamic and athletic in their movements. Moguls
(bumps) are introduced. The skier should be able to
ski all terrain with varied speed and conditions. In
order to pass to the next level, Dusters must pass a test
given by a senior
instructor. Students receive one (1 ½ hour) class
per trip. |
CRUISER
(Red Lesson Card) |
The
Cruiser is an open parallel skier. They must develop
a full range of motion in their skiing. Refinement of
skiing skills is accomplished while improving timing, skill
blending and dynamics. In order to pass to the next
level, Cruisers must pass a test given by a senior instructor.
Students receive one (1 ½ hour) class per trip. |
RIPPER
(Purple Lesson Card) |
At
the Ripper level, the skier is narrow-stanced with a well
defined range of motion. The skier works to develop
skiing dynamics by expanding varied and refined parallel turning
ability. The emphasis at the Ripper level is on individual
coaching and skier improvement. Students receive one
(1 ½ hour) class per trip. |
| SNOWBOARD
LEVELS |
SKATER
(Lime Green Lesson Card) |
The
Skater is the beginning snowboarder. As a Skater, the
student will get an introduction to snowboarding, the equipment,
safety considerations and speed control. Basic skills
of standing, straight run, speed control and lift operation
will be taught. Skaters also begin to make turns on
their
snowboards. New students will be a Skater for a minimum
of two weeks – three classes per day – and will
snowboard with an instructor’s supervision until they
pass to the next level. |
RIDER
(Red Lesson Card) |
Speed
control and turning skills are expanded. Linking right
and left turns is a key outcome of the Rider level. The
transition is made from the most beginning terrain to easier
intermediate runs. The student also begins to learn
“freestyle” boarding, such as spins and boarding
both forward and
backward and basic hops. Students receive one class
(1 ½ hours) per trip. Students are passed by
the instructor to the next level. |
CARVER
(Yellow Lesson Card) |
As
a Carver the student will begin to reduce skidding in their
turns and begin to carve on the boards edges. A sense
of “rhythm and flow” begins to emerge. The
Carver looks smooth and athletic. Terrain is expanded
to include some portions of advanced runs. The student
will also begin to work on basic jumps, the halfpipe terrain
park. A special test with an advanced instructor is
required to pass the Carver level and advance to the Freestyler
level. Students receive one class (1 ½ hours)
per trip. |
FREESTYLER
(Teal Blue Lesson Card) |
The
Freestyler is a dynamic boarder with the ability to ride on
almost any terrain. Rhythm and flow have become evident
in all turns. Half pipe and terrain park skills are
expanded. Basic “grabs” of the board, and
aerial spins are also taught. Mogul riding is introduced
and the entire ski area becomes the Freestylers’ playground.
Students receive one class (1 ½ hours) per trip.
